It is with great pleasure and honor that I write this testimonial for Deb Pilgrim.

I am blessed to be one of Deb’s Fast Track Clients. I started our sessions together a broken and frustrated business owner, juggling 3 jobs to make ends meet, running a business that was barely breaking even and contemplating closing my business. After completing the "Fast Track Programme" I now work in and on my business 4 days each week, I am not juggling finances to make ends meet, I have more time with my young family and my business is making steady increases. Press Release: Multi-Tasking In Your Small Business Is Making You Dumber

Deb Pilgrim - Friday, April 05, 2013

Immediate Release

Small business owners need to take back control & stay focused

Sydney, New South Wales – April, 2013 –  In today’s plugged-in world, small business owners have fallen for a myth that multi-tasking and always being available is the way to build their business. When in fact the more they multi-task, the less control they have over their business success.  Deb Pilgrim, CEO & Founder of DebPilgrim.com says that research is showing us that multi-tasking or jumping from one activity to another is in fact making us dumber and less likely to achieve our goals, and therefore our business success.

Research Scientists at Stanford University have found that people who multitask are far less effective than those who concentrate on one thing at a time.  Whilst another study conducted at the University of London found that constant emailing and text-messaging reduces mental capability by an average of ten points on an IQ test. It was five points for women, and fifteen points for men. This effect is similar to missing a night’s sleep. For men, it’s around three times more than the effect of smoking cannabis. (Wilson, 2005)

A recent Harvard Business Review articles says that multitasking leads to as much as a 40% drop in productivity and increased stress (Bergman, 2010).

It’s time for small business owners to regain control of their business and their lives, by focusing on less rather than more.

“Multi-tasking is bad for small business” says Pilgrim.  “It’s time for all business owners to stop switching, and focus on what’s most important to their business success, which is growing their client base, making sales and increasing their market share.  If they’re focusing on anything else, they’ll wasting their time and money.”

Small business owners need to take back control of their ability to focus on what’s most important to their business success.  Pilgrim works with small business owners to develop and implement a specific action plan that show them by focusing on three (3) key goals, greater success will occur within their business.  It’s for this reason that Pilgrim has developed a half day workshop Succeeding in 2013: Is Your Ladder Up Against The Right Wall.  In this workshop, SME’s will pair back their focus to three key goals and develop a road map that will keep them on-task to achieving their 2013 goals without having the need to multi-task at every moment.

The Importance Of Communicating How You Work - The Expectation Conversation!

Deb Pilgrim - Tuesday, January 29, 2013

Do you set up clear working guidelines at the beginning of your relationship with staff, contractors and even your clients?  When starting out in a new working relationship take the time to have a conversation around how each person likes to work.

A very simple idea that you can use is to begin first by asking the other person: "How best can you work with them?",  "What expectations do they have of you in terms of support, education, encouragement, follow up etc to perform their task well.".  "What would this ....... (support, follow up etc) look like to them?" Ask them further questions to clarify exactly what they mean, and check in to make sure you understand what they expect from you.

Once they've outlined how you can best work with them, it's time for you to also be clear around your expectations of the working relationship.  It's here that you want to be very clear, ask yourself:  "What do you expect of them in terms of .......?",  "How does this look, and what would you be seeing?", "What happens when they haven't meant their end of the bargain?". It's then up to you to outline what your expectations are of them.

The clearer you are around your expectations of each other, the more open, trusting and honest your relationship will be from the start.  And as the leader, it's your responsibility to check in every now & then, and see if the original "Expectation Conversation" is still current.  Who knows it may be time to have it again, and redefine the boundaries.

Leadership As Modeled By Our School Principal

Deb Pilgrim - Thursday, December 06, 2012
Today was my eldest daughter's end of year presentation for Year 2, which focused on "A More Excellent Way". This is the 2nd year I've had the privilege of watching & listening to the school principal - Mr Bowden speak.  I sit in awe and give thanks that my children have a first hand view of INSPIRING LEADERSHIP.

Over the past 20 years, I've been lucky enough to consult with a number of amazing leaders ~ from political through to business, and have admired each for their own way.  Yet when I sit and listen to our School Principal, I see what I believe is a TRUE leader! A man who has a strong vision for himself and his school. A man who walks his path, doesn't just talk it.  His focus is on creating an environment for excellence, in the context of LOVE.  A community who treasures each individual and their distinctiveness.

WHY SHARE THIS:  Because I believe studying inspiring leaders, allows us to further learn and identify our own leadership style.  As a business owner, YOU are a leader - your clients are looking to you each day for guidance and leadership.  They are wanting (& asking) you to be certain in your belief and your ability.  By studying others, you can understand better what skills you would like to model, as well as the ones that don't serve you in moving forward.

And secondly, in his presentation his focus was on LOVE, and I would love to see what happens when we bring LOVE into our business and our business relationships.  What type of magic do you think could occur?
